Using a modular display technology Samsung calls Micro LED, Samsung’s “The Wall” Modular Television makes massive, 146-inch screen. We took all of it in at CES 2018.
“Micro “LED is kind of a misleading name, because the name of the TV itself. However, is absolutely appropriate: The Wall. It is based on Samsung’s Cinema display, which is designed for movie theaters. Micro LED is over 10 feet wide and almost 6 feet tall.
According to Samsung:
Users can add or remove modules to make their TV bigger or smaller, in any configuration, removing previous limitations on screen size, with zero impact on performance of the display.
Micro LED uses a liquid crystal layer and an LED back-light, micro LED uses an array of hundreds of thousands of individual, tiny LED’s to create the image. This is a very similar technology, which we used in scoreboards and jumbo screens or monitors. Samsung says the 146-inch size became selected to conform to the standard ceiling top. The wall can obtain a searing 2,000-nit brightness, better than any LED liquid crystal display. Samsung has but to affirm a resolution for the 146-inch television.
Is Micro LED an OLED killer?
The brand new television is turning heads because of its perfect size. If we dig a little deeper it become clear that this isn’t simply every other big TV in the early-adopting 1 percentage.
Organic light-emitting diode TVs made by using LG are the modern-day picture exceptional kings. So you might be wondering if Micro LED, the primary absolutely new display tech to be commercialized on account that OLED in 2013, has a chance to take it out. I would not guess at it, at a minimum in the following few years.
